Last month, Ostapenko attracted a lot of attention and made headlines. However, that did not happen for tennis reasons, but because fans noticed that she was selling perfume samples and a vacuum cleaner through her Instagram account. The 2017 French Open champion was mobbed by fans, but she apparently took it as a joke and later hit back by revealing every item had been sold.
On the Nothing Major Show, Isner, Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey were asked to name the 2025 WTA MVP.
Isner: Ostapenko selling gifts online was a bit legendary
“I go to Ostapenko. She sells tournament gifts online, which I think is a bit legendary! She’s a bit different in a good way,” Isner said.
Meanwhile, Johnson singled out compatriot Amanda Anisimova. This year, the 24-year-old enjoyed a career-best season on the WTA Tour – reaching her first two Grand Slam finals at Wimbledon and the US Open – winning the WTA 1000 tournaments in Doha and Beijing – and achieving a career-high No. 4 ranking.
“Amanda Anisimova. Two Slam finals, two 1000 titles, she went from 36 to four. It was amazing. MVP. I think she’ll get a Slam in 2026,” Johnson said.
Querrey mentioned Mirra Andreeva, who was still there when she won back-to-back WTA titles in Dubai and Indian Wells, breaking into the top 10 for the first time in her career. Querrey also noted that he admires Andreeva’s personality.
“Mirra Andreeva. She’s young. I know she missed the year-end final. She’s on her way to becoming a superstar, maybe she’s already a superstar. She’s so likeable. Smiley. Remember when she went to Wimbledon to watch her coach Conchita Martinez play with the legends? She’s just the best,” Querrey said.
