Overcome early setbacks
When the Philadelphia 76ers set up Joel Embiid in 2014 in 2014, few were able to predict the Rocky start of his career. Foot injuries brought him on his way for his first two seasons and delayed his debut until 2016. Once on the floor, Embiid did not do much time with his potential.
Health problems continued to float, but his skills were evolving steadily. By 2021, Embiid was firm in the conversation for the best player in basketball and combined the dominant score with elite defense.
Build an Elite CV
Now that his 10th playing season starts, Embiid’s oeuvre is impressive. The 76ers-star has collected seven All-Star nodding, five all-NBA selections, two score titles and one MVP prize. Few centers in competition history are linked to its combination of size, skill and consistency.
Those achievements already put him on the right track for Springfield. As ESPN’s Zach Kram noted in a summer breakdown of Hall of Fame candidates:
“The next are Embiid and Gilgeous-Alexander, who are Shoo-Ins because of their MVPs. Derrick Rose is the only retired former MVP that is not in the Hall of Fame, and, unlike Embiid and SGA, Rose never had another all-nba-s season.”
Comparison with recent legends
The Hall of Fame class of 2025 included Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard and the famous US ‘Redeem Team’ from 2008. Like those Inductees, Embiid has formed a era of basketball in his own way. He became the first center since Shaquille O’Neal to win multiple score titles, so that some large men can do additionally.
Injuries have delayed his momentum, but his peak cannot be denied. He dominated as a multi -year MVP candidate and wore Philadelphia to several deep play -off runs.
Focused on the future
Last season, Embiid appeared in just 19 games, a memory of the constant struggle with sustainability. Yet the downtime gave him the chance to physically reset. Reports suggest that he focuses on a strong return in 2026 and then.
Whether or not Ambiid adds a championship to his resume, his case for the hall already looks safe. If he continues to stack on praises, the conversation will shift from or to how quickly he earns his place among the immortal of basketball.
