The Jockey Club and the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) organize a workshop for the organization of the State to share current programs to help identify the best practices and growth areas. The workshop will be held in Churchill Downs on Wednesday 12 November.
“We are honored to help this workshop to help our sport grow by encouraging cooperation between the breeding programs of the state and sharing best practices from all over the country,” said James L. Gagliano, president and COO of the Jockey Club. “I believe it is vital for us to unite our industry at every level to ensure that it thrives.”
The workshop starts at 9 a.m. in the Oaks Room in Churchill Downs and ends at the first post. An overview of national trends will be followed by a presentation of Douglas Reed, former program director of the University of Arizona Race Track Industry Program Director and Longtime Racing Executive, now director of Racing, Gaming & Entertainment LLC, about his work in IOWA and New Mexico. Other topics include a perspective of tracks from Maryland and Virginia and discussions about various breeder programs, such as mare refund programs in California, Maryland and Indiana, and other incentives for breeder.
“This is a great opportunity for dialogue and cooperation between the state bred by the state,” said Metzger, president of Toba. “We hope that this is evolving into programs and initiatives that can benefit the breeders of the state and racing programs throughout the country.”
Materials that summarize the programs bred by the State are provided by Bloodhorse and are available to anyone interested.
