JNPA Port self -assured of double digit growth, says chairman Unmesh Wagh

JNPA has consistently included the best lead time under large Indian ports and the port administration wants to improve it further in collaboration with terminal operators.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is convinced of the continuous growth with double digits and works to reduce the lead time with the expansion of facilities and implementation of new processes, said Unmesh Wagh chairman on Friday.

Wagh spoke with reporters after the inauguration of the second phase of PSA Mumbai terminal. The expansion makes it of the largest container terminal in India with an annual handling capacity of 4.8 million twenty -feet -long containers.

The extensive terminal was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong.

Wagh said that JNPA port is investing in capacity expansion to support trade growth. Last year the gate processed 7.3 million twenty -feet of containers and this FY 2026 expects to cross the 8 million figure.

“I am pretty sure that we will handle 10 million Teu’s in the coming two years,” said Wagh.

Teu, a metric for shipping industry stands for an equivalent unit of twenty feet (containers).

“We focus on smart site planning, real-time freight visibility and digital customer interfaces that significantly reduce the lead times,” said Ashwin Arvind, deputy director of PSA Mumbai.

PSA Mumbai, the largest of the five terminals of JNPA, processes around 200,000 Teu’s per month.

“We are encouraged to see growth on our diversified loading basis. India is constantly expanding its export of agricultural products and chemicals remain a consistent performer. This growth corresponds well to the forecast of the West India to increase trade,” Arvind said.
