After Sourv Ganguly, another large Indian cricket player to become BCCI president

The BCCI is set for a change at the top, and a legendary Indian cricket player could soon intervene as the new president. According to a report in Dainik Jagran, informal conversations were held with the former player in England during the Anderson-Detulkar trophy, which caused speculation that he succeeded Roger Binny.

Binny got off after touching the age cover of the BCCI of 70, making the position empty. Vice president Rajeev Shukla serves as acting president until the elections are held later this month during the annual general meeting.

Insiders believe that the polls will be a formality, with consensus among stakeholders who will probably avoid a competition. This would follow the pattern of earlier transitions, including the level of Sourv Ganguly in 2019 and in 2022.

Other important office carriers, such as joint secretary Devajit Saikia and treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia, are expected to continue according to the current rules. However, the race for IPL chairman can rearrange, bring it to the possible candidates with Shukla itself.

The urge from the central government to led by athlete has already given PT Usha the leadership of the Indian Olympic Association. If confirmed, the appointment of a record-breaking cricket player as a BCCI president would be a new step in that direction.
