Jets’ Haydn Fleury will remain in the hospital overnight after dying Tuesday vs. Vegas was carried on a stretcher

Fleury, who was skating backwards, was checked by Vegas forward Keegan Kolesar and lost his balance. He fell to the ice as his back hit the end boards hard with his feet up. After the collision he remained lying down. Medical personnel rushed to the scene as Jets players flocked to the bench in support, while Fleury was eventually stretchered to a standing ovation from the crowd.

The entire Jets bench empties to support Haydn Fleury as he is taken off the ice on a stretcher. Fleury was transported to the hospital by ambulance and was fully alert and moving his limbs upon departure, the Jets said.

It was Fleury’s first game since Dec. 19 at Colorado, when he came on for Logan Stanley, who was serving a one-game suspension. The incident added to an already frustrating season for the defender, who struggled with injuries earlier this year.

Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press spoke with Jets head coach Scott Arniel follow the game. Arniel said Fleury would remain in the hospital overnight and indicated he may have suffered a broken nose, which would explain the blood on the ice. McIntyre also noted that Arniel did not believe the piece was dirty and called it a freak accident.

More information on the 6-foot-10 defender’s status is expected once further testing is completed.
