It is not up for discussion about how good Lauri Markkanen was during the Eurobasket tournament. So much that the Utah -Jazz should fully expect that a return to his season of him. If he does, the jazz must prepare for a season full of Markkanen trade rumors.
At this point, the dominance of Markkanen has been so clear that it almost inevitable that the jazz will get the version of him they saw from 2022 to 2024. Everyone knows, however, that jazz is still going forward with the majority of their focus on developing their young talent.
Because the upcoming revival of Markkanen will be in a team that will not be near the Play -Offs, pending any surprises, this will lead to many trade rumors involved in Markkans. Although the Finisher may not be a franchise player, he is a game change for a play -off team looking for that extra push.
That will be an exciting prospect, but this season the jazz has made it clear that they are not exchanging Markkans, and if one of their young players looks like they are in the making franchise players, it will give them less stimulus to trade their lonely star.
Yet this is how it works in the NBA. The stars that would feel like being traded on paper appear in rumors. It will probably not be leaked from someone on the side of Utah, but rather teams who will be interested in him.
Other fan bases will wonder that Utah would not want to say goodbye to a player who does not fit in their timeline, and the answer is simple. With how good Markkanen is when he blooms, it is far from guaranteed that they get another player as good as he is.
The irony is that the Jazz Markkanen in the Donovan Mitchell deal was received when Markkanen was not considered a star. He is not as good as Mitchell was at his peak in Utah, but he is pretty close. What is even more important was because of pure happiness. There is no guarantee if the same thing would happen if they would do the same with Markkans.
But how patient will Markkanen be?
Chances are that Markkans will end with Utah this season, and they will be one of the worst teams in the NBA. Although he has been registered for the next four years, it can be a challenge for him to tolerate losing for so long.
Every star has its limit. That is why so many have speculated about the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee. They can only tolerate that they lose before they ask or leave in a free desk. Markkanen has not given a signal that he wants jazz, but there is only so much time before he gets tired.
There will be empty trade rumors with Markkans this coming season, but they may not be as empty as the Jazz plan in 2027.
