Despite the frustration of the past three years for the Utah Jazz, they now have at least a plan: they refuel. While they will try harder this season, they are still able to try to land a new pick with a high lottery. However, this strategy is not watertight and it can keep them in the dark for years.
Grant Hughes from Bleacher Report gave his “overreaching” to everyone’s out of season. When discussing jazz, his overreaction is that their tank will work this time. Hughes also pointed out that refueling is not as waterproof as once it once was.
“The Utah Jazz is going to lose a lot of competitions this season, and it will be because of design,” Hughes wrote. “… Utah has sufficiently sabotaged his selection. That is just about the way it went last year when Jazz won a competition-last 17 games. The only thing they got out was the number 5 choice and a risky, high ceiling prospect in Bailey. Never forget that failure offers no guarantee in the Flatte-Lottery-Oodds.”
It now seems a distant memory because they finally succeeded, but Utah’s tank had failed in May when they received the number 5 -pick in the design, which was the worst possible scenario. When they try to refuel again this season, the same opportunity is there.
Based on the track record of Utah to play the lottery opportunities, it would certainly have a repeat of this past year.
However, the jazz does not really have better options
So, if refueling is not exactly the perfect strategy, is there a better alternative to jazz at the moment? The answer is no. They compete in a Western conference where almost every team competes for a play -off place, so trying to win will not achieve much for them.
As much as it will suck to see that Utah loses a boot load of competitions this season as they are during this previous one, they will still put an entertaining product on the field with a revival of Lauri Markkanen and an exciting youth movement. Not only that, but the prospect to add another exciting young person, will make it easier to tolerate.
There is not really a strong case for them to change course, because even if their current large warts have, this is still the best option for them at the moment. It is the one who will immediately be difficult to see in the current one, but will offer hope for the future.
