James McDonald has been confirmed to ride the Tulloch Lodge colt Knightsbridge in the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast.

McDonald has been engaged for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained youngster after the colt improved his youth race qualifications with an impressive victory on his second start after returning from a break at Randwick on Saturday.

Knightsbridge was secured $750,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by the James Harron Colts partnership in association with Tony Fung.

The colt is currently on the fourth betting line for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic at $11 odds, led by $2 favorite Warwoven.

Waterhouse is the most successful trainer in the history of the race. He has won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic five times with Assertive Lad (2000), Excellerator (2001), Dance Hero (2004) and Driefontein (2012), before teaming up with Bott to add Storm Boy to the list of honors two years ago.

McDonald will also appear on the Gold Coast card this Saturday, with his ride on the Kelly Schweida-trained colt Grafterburners a highlight of the twilight meeting, where the youngster is the $3.50 favorite for the $3 million Sunlight final race.
