Hoffman rejuvenates old trotter

The wonders of water were proven again when Racey Krusa (Peak) won his first race in over a year at Ascot Park today.

Before joining Amber Hoffman’s Waikouaiti Beach stable, the eight-year-old, owned by Bruce Graham, had made all seventy-five starts for Amber Lethaby.

“We have Deny Everything, owned by Damian Love, and Bruce’s daughter Sally is with Damian. They thought they would take one last chance and try a different environment,” Hoffman said.

RACEY KRUSA REPEAT

It was an excellent training performance from Hoffman, as Racey Krusa had not raced since May and he had not been to any races or practices. But that didn’t worry Hoffman.

“We have put a lot of work into him, he is a naturally fit horse and has little condition. That linear training helps those older horses. It is better for the joints.”

Racey Krusa last won at Methven in November 2024 and he has two previous victories in 2022.

“When we first got him, he was really excited. But now he’s a cool old guy.”

In today’s R35 Trot, driver Brent Barclay put Racey Krusa hard on the back of pacer De Griek Freek and when the pacing lane presented itself he sprinted nicely to get up and win by a length and a quarter.

“Following a helmet is the best journey for him.”
