During the UFC 322 post-fight press conference, Makhachev was asked about Morales as a potential title contender. He said everyone thinks they can knock him out until fight night. Makhachev also expressed his belief that no one can prepare for his struggle.
Morales responded to his Instagram account with a clear message for the new UFC welterweight champion.
“Two, three years in Tijuana and you learn how to knock someone out,” Morales wrote in Spanish.
It is understood that Morales used Makhachev’s own words against him in the social media post. Makhachev is known to joke about sending fighters to Dagestan for a few years to learn how to wrestle.
During the post-fight press conference of UFC 322, Morales was asked if Makhachev once again used his wrestling to secure a title. The rising welterweight reminded reporters and fans that he has been able to thwart capable grapplers.
“They said this about me too,” Morales said. “Every time, every fighter has said, ‘I’m going to take him down. I’m going to work him to the ground. It’s going to happen.’ They say things they can’t. The only thing I said before: I stay focused. I’m going to stay calm about this, keep the hard work I put in and show it, and that’s not going to happen.”
Time will tell whether Morales should be next in line for a shot at the welterweight title, according to UFC brass.
