The seller of today’s Nice Price or No Dice Corolla says it’s “for sale, not for sale.” It also looks like a hoot and a half to look at, so we’ll have to see how much it should rightfully sell for.
Have you ever had a caviar bump? That’s the little spoon (mother of pearl, please) of the little black fish roe that sits on the side of the fist and is eaten like a cat licks its paw. Some people shy away from the act because of its cost (yikes!) and its embarrassing decadence. Others simply find eating fish eggs gross. I saw Stanley Tucci tour a sturgeon farm in Italy, which claims to supply a third of the world’s caviar. After learning from that show that the fish are sent out to harvest their eggs, I don’t feel like I want to partake in caviar consumption any longer.
I think many of us felt the same way about the 2001 BMW M Roadster we looked at last Friday. It represented the latest evolution of that sporty model and offered enough power (315 hp) that even the seller warned could be ‘scary’. At $48,500, it was also decadently priced. Many of you expressed your appreciation for the car and its condition in the comments, but when it came to the thought of paying that much, the majority of you balked. That resulted in a 93% ‘No Dice’ vote loss.
They don’t make them like they used to anymore
This model is from the tenth generation of the Corolla and is important because it is the last car in the model range for the North American market. After its departure in 1997, the Corolla line was contracted to a single four-door sedan, a far cry from the sedans, coupes, liftbacks and wagons offered in the 1980s.
This burgundy beauty has a clean title and has logged 133,766 miles, which is just getting started on the Corolla Clock. As a DX model, this car is reasonably well equipped, with electric windows, cozy cloth upholstery, working air conditioning and the largest SRS AIRBAG embossing on the dashboard that money can buy.
A proud personal statement
According to the seller, the car is as tight as a drum and has no leaks or strange noises. A strut tower brace and lowered suspension give the car, as the seller says, ‘great handling’. Basic maintenance has also been extensive, with items such as the fuel tank and one window regulator replaced. Also new are the brakes, including the front rotors and lines. All the modifications, together with the additions to the bodywork, make for a very individualistic edition of an arguably ordinary car.
That’s excellent?
The interior fares better, although the dust and dirt in the boot and around the spare tire is bad enough to make your nose itch just looking at the photos. A few wet wipes and a vacuum cleaner would do wonders there. Father come on, things are better. The upholstery and plastic are all in excellent condition. Amazingly, this custom Corolla still has the factory AM/FM/cassette stereo in the dash. That dash is also free of trouble lights, making this an in-and-go proposition.
A car to brag about
With that in mind, we now need to address the issue of this Corolla’s $6,500 price. What is your opinion on this funky car for the money? Does that seem fair given the modifications and description of the car? Or is that much more than this car is worth?
You decide!
