- The Nissan Versa will not return for the 2026 model year first reported by The Drive.
- Before the 2025 Versa ended production this month, its $18,585 base price made it Nissan’s most affordable new car.
- With the Versa leaving the lineup, customers will have to consider the Kicks Play, Kicks or Sentra, all of which start at $22,000.
The writing was on the wall earlier this year when Nissan ended production of the Versa with a manual transmission. The three-pedal version of the cheapest new car sold in America was discontinued due to a combination of low sales volume and the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. While the automatic-equipped Versa was built at Nissan’s plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico, production officially ended this month.
Nissan has since confirmed that the Versa will not return for the 2026 model year, according to an initial report from The Drive. When Car and driver When reaching out to Nissan to verify the report, a spokesperson provided the following statement: “In line with Nissan’s product strategy, the Nissan Versa ended production in December 2025 for the U.S. market. Nissan remains committed to offering affordable and stylish vehicles in the sedan segment with models like Sentra and Altima, while also offering strong value in the compact SUV segment with the Kicks.”
The death of the Versa means Nissan no longer offers a model that starts under $19,000. For the 2025 model year, the cheapest Versa started at $18,585, while the top trim cost $22,585. Meanwhile, the $23,000 Kicks Play (an expanded version of the last-generation Kicks) will likely become the new entry point into the Nissan lineup unless it also gets the ax before 2026. Either way, most Nissan customers looking for an affordable new car will have to choose between the redesigned Sentra compact sedan (starting at $23,845) or the Kicks subcompact SUV (starting at $ 23,925).
