Liverpool 4 Newcastle 1 – Saturday January 31, 2026 8:00 PM

Direct fan/writer response from some of our regular contributors to The Mag.

Nat Seaton:

‘Not a performance that warranted a 4-1 scoreline, but that’s what happened.

A better away performance that gives a little hope for all these away games that are coming up.

A terrible final goal to concede and it sums up our record at Anfield: one day this will change, it just can’t continue like this!

On to the semi-finals and our nothing to lose match (well, everything to lose, but you know what I mean!), let’s go…’

Billy Miller:

‘A score that flattered the hosts.

We were the better team in the first half and deserved the lead.

But all four goals conceded were poor defensively, especially the second. We were all at sea before that and it seemed to damage our confidence when we fell behind at half time.

We never fully recovered, but we need to replicate PSG’s performance and the first 35 minutes of it in our next series of away games.

Hard to see Ekitike giving us a brace. Where would we be if we could have gotten it this summer?’

Matt Busby said…:

‘What’s going on with Anfield and us?

We took the game to the Scousers and were largely the better side, but still came out of the park trailing 4-1.

Some poor defending tonight and after that run of three consecutive wins in the Premier League it’s now a draw and two defeats in our last three. We are back in mid-table and I fear our short-lived assault on the top five is over.

I’ll settle for 4-1 on Wednesday.’

David Punton:

‘Another season, another defeat at Anfield.

It’s like a curse. Are we ever going to win here? Serious?

Other teams have also had some joy at Liverpool this season.

We started this game well and failed to build on the lead we gained through Anthony Gordon.

We pretty much threw it away and the player we tried to sign turned the game on its head.

A very bad night for us after a promising start. Not many positives.’

Jamie Smith:

‘Uh. A quality opening half hour and a deserved lead.

Undone by a player we tracked and bid for, but could not bid £250,000 per week under PSR rules.

The second half was poor and you have to worry about the team’s stamina for the upcoming horror series.

I hope once the Man City tie is over (once they score) there will be full recordings to try and restart for the next winning game.

We’ll never get anything here anyway, but 4-1 felt very flat.’

GTone:

“And people are questioning me because I say I’m tired of this season.

This is getting a bit annoying now.

I’m tired of saying the same thing.

Knee-jerk reactions don’t last a season.

For the people who think that our competition format is good and that these kinds of results are expected, acceptable, etc. I am happy for you.’
