It’s the house that’s good for SA’s sick and underprivileged children, and good for your fanny pack.
And it could soon be yours.
The Advertiser Foundation’s Good Home at 24 Bluegum Way, Oakden will be auctioned on November 1, with the house and land donated by Weeks Homes and Villawood Properties.

Michael Morris, design manager of Weeks Homes, said that as well as being luxurious, it has also been carefully designed to maximize energy efficiency – especially important during a cost of living crisis.
“Everything is powered by electricity, so we put a solar system on the roof, an electric heat pump system that works efficiently, we have an EV charger for an electric car and we also have battery storage,” he said.
“The costs are scary for many. What will the electricity bill look like in October/November instead of January/February? Those fluctuations in prices can be harmful to their budget.
“Here, those bills should be very small, if not nonexistent, from quarter to quarter, and that’s the benefit of this design, and it takes a lot of stress off families.”

Mr Morris said it was certainly not your average model home, with the house complete with three-phase power, R6.0 ceiling insulation, LED mirrors, reverse cycle air conditioning and blackout roller blinds.
“It’s a very stable environment – it usually stays about 70-70 degrees – and you really only use your air conditioner on those really cold and really hot days,” he said.
“Everyone here is really proud of it.”
Located just 9km from the CBD, the home offers further cost savings for buyers through enviable lifestyle amenities, including access to the exclusive residents’ club with gym, pool, cafe and party areas; as well as free walking trails, playgrounds and green parks.

The entire sales price of the fully furnished, move-in ready home will be split evenly by six children’s organizations: the Childhood Cancer Association, Backpacks 4 SA Kids, KickStart for Kids, the Sammy D Foundation, the Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation family support program and Channel 7 Children’s Research Foundation with Raising Literacy Australia.
