Bus Stop Films has announced even more speakers for the Driving Change: Disability Employment Summit.

New speakers have been announced for the second Driving Change: Disability Employment Summit. will take place on Bondi Beach in November.

Two key sessions are Disability on Screen with actors Bridie McKim (The heights, bump), Knox Gibson (The Hunger Games), Chris Bunton (Naked Tuesday, Boss Cat) and athlete, actor, writer and director Dylan Alcott AM (Bump, Audrey); and Reality TV & Disability, hosted by ABC TV’s Bethany Woodman The Meeting with Ronan Soussa (Love on the spectrum), Daniel Bartholomew (The Meeting), executive producer/producer of The Assembly, Melissa Maclean, and Love on the spectrum Director Cian O’Clery.

CEO of Bus Stop Films, Tracey Corbin-Matchett OAM, said: “The program is packed with impact. This year’s event brings together the absolute superstars of the disability community. They will share unparalleled experiences, expertise and insights. Never before has this group of leaders come together for such an important event. For producers, policy makers and practitioners, the summit is essential professional development.”

Other sessions will look at the representation of sex on screen with actors with disabilities and there will be a special focus on the blind/visually impaired and deaf communities, with panels featuring world champion blind surfer and Paralympian Matt Formston, actor Ben Phillips, singer Lara Nakhle and ABC’s Nas Campanella, as well as stand-up comedian and advertising executive Angus McLeod and deaf filmmaker Sam Martin. A subsequent session will look at the role and rise of influencers and content creators, hosted by Nathan Borg, with panelists including Loz Booth, Carly Findlay, Timothy Hans, the producer of “Get Down with Sean and Marley” and international guest Laura Winson, founder of inclusive talent agent Zebedee. Laura is an Honorary Fellow at the Conde Nast College of Fashion and was named among Grazia’s ‘Most Influential Women in Fashion’.

The Inclusion in Long Form session takes a deep dive into the recent production of the feature film Boss Cat, written and directed by Genevieve Clay-Smith, co-founder of Bus Stop. The film’s stars Olivia Hargroder and Genevieve Clay-Smith will join the film’s producers to create a case study in truly inclusive filmmaking. The lead actress of Boss Cat Olivia Hargroder is a person with Down syndrome; and several departments on the film welcomed an attachment to disability. Leading creative entrepreneur Monica Davidson of Creative Business will lead a workshop on “Freelancing and the Gig Economy. Tips and Tricks for Working in the Screen Industry”

Driving Change brings together the disability and commercial advertising, broadcasting and production sectors to explore the employment of people with disabilities in the screen content industries, on both sides of the camera and above and below the line. The Summit will elevate and celebrate the people and purpose of driving change in policy, production, attitudes and narratives around disability.

Other topics explored include AI, technology and gaming, disability and advertising, disability broadcasting and sport, support for screen agencies and support for employers looking to employ people with disabilities.

Governor General Sam Mostyn AC will join Bus Stop Chairman, new Nine Entertainment Chairman Peter Tonagh to open the event at the Summit welcome reception. Hosts are April Hélène-Horton and comedian Madeleine Stewart and, as previously announced, international guests include Bella Roberts, content creator, editorial assistant on Netflix’s Adolescence and Tik Tok teacher who was recently named UK Content Creator of the Year.

Bus Stop Films is self-funding the Summit, along with significant support from the Australian Government, Netflix, ABC, Screen NSW and. Additional sponsors are always welcome.
