India: Preview: 15th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2025, Jalandhar, Punjab

~ 30 teams have been set to compete in the new division -based format from 12 to 23 August ~ ~

New Delhi, August 11, 2025: The 15th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2025 will start on 12 August 2025 in Jalandhar, Punjab. The tournament runs until August 23 and follows the new division-based format, which has already been introduced and implemented in the senior and sub junior men and women and the Junior Women’s National Championships earlier this year.

The 30 participating teams are split into division ‘A’, Division ‘B’ and Division ‘C’, with promotion and relegation that add an extra lead to the competition. The teams in ‘A’ division will fight for the title, while the top two teams of divisions ‘B’ and ‘C’ earn promotion to the next layer. The lower two parties in divisions ‘A’ and ‘B’ will be relegated to the next division before 2026.

Division ‘A’ has the 12 best junior men’s sides of the country, including title defender Hockey Punjab, Runners-up Hockey Uttar Pradesh and third placed hockey Haryana. Polar competitions start on August 16, which leads to the quarterfinals, semi -final and the final from 20 to 23 August. The teams are divided into the following Pools:

  • Pool A: Hockey Punjab, Hockey Madhya Pradesh, Hockey unit of Tamil Nadu
  • Pool B: Uttar Pradesh Hockey, Hockey Jharkhand, Hockey Maharashtra
  • Pool C: Hockey Haryana, Manipur Hockey, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey
  • Pool D: Hockey Karnataka, Hockey Association of Odisha, Hockey Andhra Pradesh

‘B’ division will only contain competition matches, with the top two ranked teams that are promoted to division ‘A’ and the last two relegated to division ‘C’. Competitions run from 12 to 16 August. The teams are divided into the following two Pools:

  • Pool A: Hockey Mizoram, Hockey Himachal, Hockey Chandigarh, Hockey Jammu & Kashmir, Hockey Arunachal
  • Pool B: Hockey Association of Bihar, Delhi, Hockey Uttarakhand, Hockey Bengal, Assam Hockey

Division ‘C’ is also played in a competitive format with teams, each of which is divided into two pools of four teams, with the top two ranked teams that are promoted to division ‘B’. Competitions will take place from 12 to 15 August. The teams are divided into the following Pools:

  • Pool A: Kerala Hockey, Le Puducherry Hockey, Telangana Hockey, Tripura Hockey
  • Pool B: Chhattisgarh Hockey, Hockey Raj, Hockey Gujarat, Goans Hockey

In all three divisions, teams earn 3 points for a victory, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for loss.

Hockey India -President Dr. Dilip Tirkey said: “Junior tournaments are extremely crucial for the future of Indian hockey. The young players will learn to play a lot in this format, because we will see a different level of competitive capacity among teams in all divisions while they fight for promotion and the champion title.

Hockey India -Secretary -General Shri Bola Nath Singh spoke about similar lines and stated: “The Junior Men National Championships are an important event in our agenda, which gives young players valuable competition experience and exposure. We are convinced that the tournament of the grass roots will show strong performance” “
