Hangzhou, September 11, 2025: The Indian hockey team for women lost their second Super4S pool competition with 1-4 against hosts China on the Women’s Asia Cup 2025 in Hangzhou on Thursday. Mumtaz Khan (38 ‘) was the only goal scorer for India, while Meirong (4 ′, 56 ′), Chen Yang (31’) and Tan Jinzhuang (47 ‘) would score goals for China.
It was a lively first quarter, in which both parties attacked the circles and created good opportunities, but it was China who secured the opening goal early. In the very first minute of the third quarter, China raised their lead by scoring a happy goal while India brought the ball away in their own circle to an unmarked Chen Yang (31 ‘) for the goal that scored with a simple finish. China won their first penalty corner of the day, but their attempt went wide from the target. In the 38th minute, Mumtaz Khan (38 ′) scored an incredible field goal for India to reduce the shortage. China started strongly in the last quarter and added another goal to their count. China achieved another goal in the 56th minute thanks to another field goal from Meirong (56 ′) to seal the fixture and the progress in the final of the Women’s Asia Cup.
India will then play against Japan on 12 September in their third game of the Super4Spool looking for a victory to achieve a place in the final and to collide with hosts China for the coveted title.
