India defeated England by 100 runs in the final of the 2026 ICC Under-19 World Cup in Harare, sealing a record sixth title. A tremendous batting show and a sharp bowling spell helped India maintain control from start to finish.
Opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played an innings that will be remembered for years to come. The 14-year-old hit 175 off 80 balls, breaking several records and posting India’s highest ever total in an U19 World Cup knockout match.
India came into bat and got off to a quiet start, but Sooryavanshi soon flipped the script. He went from 15 off 17 balls to 50 off 32 and then went into overdrive. The boundaries kept coming as he raced past 150 with clean hits all over the ground.
Ayush Mhatre added a steady 53 and gave Sooryavanshi good support. Later, Vedant Trivedi, Vihaan Malhotra and Kanishk Chouhan scored quick runs. Even after Sooryavanshi was dismissed, the lower order continued to attack to push India to 411/9, the first score over 400 in an U19 knockout.
England started their chase cautiously before trying to speed up. Ben Dawkins, Ben Mayes and Thomas Rew found runs, but wickets fell at regular gaps. The pressure continued to mount as India’s bowlers remained tight.
The match turned sharply after the 20th over. England fell from 171/3 to 177/7 in just two overs, a collapse that ended any real hope of a comeback. RS Ambrish led the charge with figures of 3/56, while Mhatre and Deepesh Devendran provided the decisive spell.
Caleb Falconer fought hard with a fine 115 and shared a 92-run stand with James Minto for the eighth wicket. The partnership delayed the outcome, but never threatened it. England were eventually bowled out for 311 in 40.2 overs.
India’s victory underlined their dominance at this level. A historic team total and a one-off strike from Sooryavanshi made this final one of the most one-sided and memorable in U19 World Cup history.
