With fresh snow piled high and temperatures below freezing, reporters with The real deal trudged to a lower Manhattan courthouse this week to watch the Alexander brothers’ federal sex trafficking case unfold.

The proceedings marked the culmination of nearly two years of reporting on allegations that disgraced real estate agents Tal and Oren Alexander and Oren’s twin brother, Alon Alexander, had sexually assaulted multiple women. The brothers were arrested in December 2024 on federal sex trafficking charges and have been in custody in a Brooklyn jail since January 2025.

Here’s what’s happened so far.

Prosecutors in the Southern District of New York kicked off Tuesday with an opening statement laying out their case against the brothers, including allegations that they worked together between 2008 and 2021 to lure women to destinations like the Hamptons and the Bahamas with the promise of luxury travel and exclusive experiences. Once the women arrived, however, they were sexually assaulted and in some cases drugged by one or more of the brothers, prosecutors allege.

Defense attorneys pushed back against prosecutors’ characterization of the brothers’ lifestyle, arguing instead that the brothers’ women’s behavior was “gross” but not criminal. They also disputed prosecutors’ claims that the Alexanders drugged women to attack them, pointing to a lack of toxicology or medical reports to support prosecutors’ claims. This week, two women took the stand. One testified Tuesday under the pseudonym “Katie Moore” to describe how she met Tal and Alon at a viewing party at the 2012 NBA Championships at actor Zac Efron’s apartment before being drugged while at a nightclub with the brothers. She told the court she blacked out and woke up naked in a bed with Alon standing over her. She said he laughed when she told him she didn’t want to have sex and that she already had. She claims he then raped her again. (Read the story about her testimony here.)

On Wednesday, a woman using the pseudonym “Maya Miller” detailed her claim that she was drugged and raped by Tal in the Hamptons in August 2014. She claimed that during her second night during a weekend trip at a country house in Sag Harbor, she felt the mood change and began to fear for her and her friend’s safety. When Miller tried to leave the next morning, she claimed Tal cornered her in the shower and raped her. (Read the story about her testimony here.)

Attorneys representing the defendants cross-examined each alleged victim, questioning both women about who they told it about and when, and pressing Miller about why she didn’t seek help from her friend, who was in the bathroom while she was allegedly attacked by Tal in the shower.

Lawyers also questioned the women about their alcohol use, including their previous habits and the lead-up to the alleged rapes. Howard Srebnick, an attorney for Alon, asked Moore several questions about the “little bit” of MDMA she admitted to using early in the evening.

On Thursday, proceedings focused on allegations against each of the three brothers, including the beginning of testimony related to sexual exploitation of a minor charge Oren faces for an alleged 2009 rape captured on video. Prosecutors ended the week by walking jurors through a series of photos and videos taken the night of the alleged attack.

The Alexanders, their lawyers and TRD will be back in court Monday, where the woman depicted in the video is expected to testify.

Not so fast…

Brooklyn’s ultra-luxury market experienced a growth spurt last year, though it still lags behind its post-pandemic golden years.

In 2025, the city closed 12 deals for $10 million or more, a 50 percent increase from the eight the year before, according Kompas annual report. Revenue totaled $143 million, up 34 percent year-over-year from $107 million.

Despite the rebound, the market is still lagging behind 2022, a banner year for luxury deals in Brooklyn, when buyers flocked to the suburbs in the wake of the pandemic. That year, 13 deals were closed for homes priced at $10 million or more for a volume of more than $170 million.

NYC deal of the week

The most expensive sale to hit city lists this week was for two adjacent townhomes in the West Village. New York University Law School sold the properties at 63 and 65 Charles Street for $33.4 million. The buyer was an anonymous LLC with an address in the Cayman Islands.
