Important official injury update from Newcastle United on Tuesday evening ahead of Manchester City

A major official Newcastle United injury update was released on Tuesday evening, ahead of the match against Manchester City.

Eddie Howe has opened up very much as he prepares for the upcoming Premier League match.

United are back in action on Saturday in the late afternoon at 5.30pm.

Eddie Howe was inducted into the Newcastle United Hall of Fame this evening at the Newcastle United Foundation’s annual awards dinner.

However, the NUFC head coach is also happy to provide this important Newcastle United injury update.

Eddie Howe in conversation with Matthew Raisbeck from BBC Newcastle – November 18, 2025:

Matthew Raisbeck:

“I know many of your players are not back yet, but could you update us on the fitness of a few?

‘Anthony Gordon didn’t leave England, neither did Nick Pope.

“And there were reports that Sandro Tonali might not be 100 percent fit because he didn’t play in Italy’s second match?”

Eddie Howe:

“We have a bit of a mixed bag.

“Antony [Gordon] we’ll wait and see, it’ll touch and go for the [Manchester City] game.

“Sandro [Tonali] should be good.

“Nick [Pope] had a concussion, but he passed the protocols there, so he should be fine.

“We still have a few that we are taking care of.

“Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall in the early stages – although he has made some really good performances.

“Yoane Wissa is not there yet, but is now starting his work.

“So yes, we are looking for a healthier place.”

My thoughts

Great news that both Sandro Tonali and Nick Pope will be available.

It’s no surprise that Yoane Wissa will still be missing and I suspect Tino Livramento will also be unavailable.

Lewis Hall came off the bench against both Bilbao and Brentford, recently started for England Under 21s and also played half an hour today when he came off the bench as they beat Slovakia Under 21s 4-0. Lewis Miley also came off the bench in that game and recently started as well.

I think Lewis Hall should be in line to start, while Anthony Gordon is an unknown. Eddie Howe says ‘hit and go’ Gordon, but my feeling is the winger might be available. We certainly hope so, because this is a busy period with games coming up.

From Man City on Saturday (November 22) to Chelsea at home on Saturday December 20, there are nine Newcastle games in that four-week period.
