The St. Agnes School Community in Arlington, Virginia, zooms about the heroic actions of a teacher during an excursion to Baltimore. What started as a journey to learn about genetics, instead became one about heroism, while one of their teachers collapsed the inland port to save a little boy and his father.

It was lunch time on the stairs of the inner harbor during an excursion to the Maryland Science Center. Science teacher Tj O’Leary lunched with the children – when something caught his attention.

Students had lunch on the stairs of the Binnenhaven when their teacher and a parent chaperone came into action to get a little boy and his father out of the water.

‘I see a seagull running a little and just see this little child [a] 5- [or] 6-year-old, just Jettin ‘, falls apart from the end. Then I may have the father eight, nine feet behind him, just run, jumped in. “

O’Leary soon realized that both father and son were struggling and could not swim.

“I tear out my shoes, as if I didn’t even think about it, just very, very reactionary,” he said. “I jumped in; you know, we got the child, and then I went outside to get the father and he was just a little panicked and pushed me over immediately. I said,” I try to help you! I try to help you! “

“Mr. O’Leary held the boy up and pushed the father, and I could pull them on the brick,” she said.

First Responders arrived quickly and checked the father and son before they brought to a hospital. O’Leary says the boy cried, the father also in shock to even speak.

“I am something like:” Hey friend, I’m glad we could get you in it. ” I said [to the dad]”Your son is a great child, and I’m glad we can help and everyone can go home tonight.” “

As far as O’Leary and Klaauder are concerned, they were both back to a hospital in North Virginia, to be disinfected of bacteria in the water.

O’Leary’s strength and size was undoubtedly a help with the rescue – he is a former baseball player from the university. But it thought of his own children who were really pushed in the dark water.

“I don’t think about it [being] A hero, “he said.” I feel that everyone in that situation would have jumped into it and would have done it. “

Klauder’s son saw his mother take action.

“He was proud of his mother. He was like, you know,” well done, Mom, “she said.

Christine Klaauder, a parent who attended the excursion as a supervisor, waded into the water to help with the rescue.

Both O’Leary and Klaauder hope that the St. Agnes children have returned home with a valuable lifelong lesson.

“I hope they are looking for opportunities to be better citizens and help people when they need it, and not to stand up and think that someone else will take care of it. You know, you can be part of the solution.”

The police of Baltimore tells us that the father and son have not suffered any injuries.
