It’s Monday and I’m sitting at Espresso House with a cup of steaming hot chai latte and the first ham sandwich of the year by my side. The computer turns on and a Spotify playlist titled “Family Christmas 2024” flows into the headphones. The first thing I did when I calmed down was transfer most of last week’s “must do’s” in my notes to this week. This in turn means that both my physical calendar and various Excel files are filled with countless items that linger week after week until I realize just in time for Friday that I can get my hands on them on Monday. Next Monday. Then it will definitely happen!
I’m starting to wonder if Monday is my best day of the week after all? A completely new starting feeling and with the ambition to solve not just one, but ALL of the world’s problems. I suspect many of us recognize ourselves in Miss Li’s brilliant song about the feelings before the first day of the week:
I will be healthy and balanced
So very organized and motivated
Yes, I’ll show you I did that
Pretty good potential
Just give me a few dates
I will be absolutely amazing
I haven’t shown it yet, but I
I’ll start working on it on Monday
I’ll get back to you on Monday (my best motto and my biggest lie in life)
Some people hate New Year’s resolutions and feel bad about the concept of a fresh start. Personally, I am always looking for patterns and opportunities to find motivation to KEEP things, life if you will. Let me give a few examples (besides the obvious fact that today is Monday and everything that entails):
- Thursday is November 13th. Since my birthday is March 13, I care precisely four months to complete great works before my birthday again.
- In two weeks it will be Monday, November 24. Yes, exactly one month and two weeks until Christmas Eve. It gives me loads of time to deal with both.
- Wednesday marks exactly three days since I drank the energy drink, so 21 days. Because it will last 66 days to break a habit Do I have to last about the same amount of time x 3.
- Today there are eight more Mondays before 2026. To take! Eight great opportunities to be perfect!
But what should I achieve and improve?
Yes, what exactly do I want to achieve and improve? Good question. I want to get better in every way possible. My siblings claim that I find it difficult to be satisfied here and now. It’s really poor quality overall! Perhaps what I NEED to tackle on this and the next Mondays is just working on satisfaction. To stop comparing myself to others and run my race. “Harrow on” is another life motto I live by – maybe that’s enough?
Sort of like that, my thoughts are turning to glory this Monday. How are you?
