The identities of the ultra-rich investors looking to buy Manchester United have been revealed, amid reports they have contacted club legends.

Shock inheritance claim filed

Saudi Arabia’s sporting chief Turki Al-Sheikh sparked excitement among United fans after revealing on social media that the club is in the “advanced stages” of talks with a new investor.

Al-Sheikh turned to

“I hope it is better than the previous owners.”

Speculation about this claim was further fueled after a report from The Peoples Person stated that the Glazers – United’s majority shareholders – are open to bids of more than £5 billion for their stake. This figure is more than double United’s current stock market value.

It is understood United are in the dark over a potential takeover, although potential suitors could enter into talks with the Glazers.

Now talkSPORT has revealed the identities of the investors.

Identity of potential US investors revealed

talkSPORT reports: “The group Alalshikh is referring to is believed to be based in the UAE and talkSPORT has been told that several United legends have been approached about potential investments.”

This has been confirmed by Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail which notes: “A consortium based in the United Arab Emirates is said to be considering making a bid to the Glazer family, which would demand more than £5 billion to sell the club, and has already approached a number of ex-United players to come on board as ambassadors.”

“But there has been no contact with United’s majority owners so far, and the picture is very different from the one Al-Sheikh painted late on Wednesday evening in a message to his 7.2 million followers.”

Wheeler explains that the consortium’s plans are at an early stage and there are no guarantees that it will develop into a formal bid.

On Thursday, Al-Sheikh posted an update on

“To be clear, I am not the investor, nor are they from my country. I’m posting this as a fan who wants the deal to go through, even if it doesn’t necessarily have to.”

When the Glazers sold a minority stake to Ratcliffe last February, the Florida-based owners included a clause that could force Ratcliffe to sell his shares or match any offer made to the family by interested parties.

This clause became active in August.
