We’ve played a lot on that field, and we’ve played a lot against India – Tahlia McGrath

After the match against South Africa, Australian stand-in captain Tahlia McGrath stated that they have played a lot against India recently but anything can happen in a knockout match. She said:

(on facing India in the semi-finals of the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup) Yes, absolutely. We’ve played a lot on that ground, and we’ve played a lot against India, especially lately. But knockout matches are crucial: anything can happen. Job one is done, qualification. Task two, the knockouts, we are really looking forward to it.”

She further lavished praise on leg-spinner Alana King for her incredible figures of 7-2-18-7 against South Africa and revealed how they planned to use her. Tahlia McGrath said:

“(King) She was very good. No, that was pretty amazing. It just felt like she had the ball in her hands and something was going to happen – and it certainly did today. She just attacked the stumps relentlessly, and we felt like every ball was going to be a wicket. Super happy for her. I heard she broke a lot of records – a really special achievement. Yeah, we stayed with them.

“We adjusted our plans a bit – we knew we could just be a bit tighter, create some point balls. We got points, but leaked a few boundaries. So we adjusted a bit, stayed nice and calm, and they both pulled it back really well and took crucial wickets. (on bringing King) Yeah, she’s a bit of an X-factor for us this World Cup. As soon as the powerplay was done, I had a quick chat with Ash, and we both agreed to bring her on. She took over and did the rest.”
