Former India National Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri, who shares a great bond with Virat Kohli, was seen as the modern batsman for registering back-to-back ducks in the ODI series against the Australia National Cricket Team.
The hilarious interaction between former coach-captain duo Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli took place after the conclusion of the final ODI between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Virat Kohli ends the Australian tour on a high
The 36-year-old started India’s tour of Australia 2025 on a terrible note as he bagged two consecutive ducks in the first two matches of the ODI series.
Your daily dose of cricket!
In Perth, Kohli stepped out for a duck while trying to play a drive outside Mitchell Starc’s stump as he slid the ball into the hands of Cooper Connolly, and in the second ODI, Xavier Bartlett trapped him LBW.
Kohli’s dismissal shocked the cricket world as it was the first time in his storied ODI career that he was dismissed for a duck in two consecutive matches.
However, the right-handed batsman made sure he ended his tour of Australia on a high note at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He came off the goal line from the very first ball and remained unbeaten in the middle until the end. Virat Kohli scored 74* runs off 81 balls, with 7 fours, and was involved in a match-winning stand of 168 runs with Rohit Sharma.
Two ducks out of the pond – Ravi Shastri trolls Virat Kohli
After the conclusion of the ODI in Sydney, Ravi Shastri, who was covering the broadcasts alongside Adam Gilchrist, brought up Kohli’s consecutive ducks for Rohit Sharma to roast him.
“Two ducks out of the pond. The ducks are finally out,” said former Indian national cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri.
“Good to be out of the pond, to be honest. Well, you know, I’ve lost a bit. You’ve scored so many runs in international cricket but then the game shows you everything, even at this stage. Almost 37 in not many days and it can still feel like you don’t know how to get a run.
“I mean, this game is great. That’s why we love batting, we love batsmanship. And it’s so challenging when it doesn’t go your way, and just to find your rhythm again. Going out there, having a situation to play in is obviously something that always brings out the best in me,” Virat Kohli replied.
Meanwhile, Kohli further said that he absolutely enjoys batting with Rohit Sharma as they understand each other’s game very well.
“If Rohit is already batting there, it is quite easy to keep hitting a rotating stroke. We understand each other’s game quite well. So it is very good to have a big partnership and another match-winning partnership for us,” Kohli said.

“(About Kohli and Rohit) They have been doing it for so many years. It’s a pleasure to see them both bat and especially when they both complete the innings. (About his first ODI win as Indian captain) A special feeling and a good win for us here.”
