Ian Poulter is no problem for our Walker Cup team. But maybe his son

Pebble Beach, California – So now there is a new Poulter to root in front of or against: Luke Poulter, son of Ian. He went to high school in Orlando, at Circle Christian, and is now going to the University of Florida. But he was born in England and he plays in the Walker Cup, here on Cypress Point, for GB & I. His father played in Zeven Ryder -Bekers, but never a Walker Cup. He became Pro at the age of 20 – amateur golf was never his thing.

Luke is long and slim, just like his father, but he does not have his father’s flashy wardrobe (of course he is wearing team Duds this week). The son also has a placid, even attitude, nothing like the stick-in-your-eye personality of his father. But they are very close and Ian exists this week and offers advice to the 10 GB & I players. In their accents and Toon, son sounds the father and father as a son.

“It’s funny: when I am at school with my friends and my parents call me, my accent gets much stronger, it just happens,” said Luke Poulter on Friday afternoon. He is 21 and a junior at UF, is planning to keep graduating and then become pro. He has been living in the US for 17 years, but has often spent summer in England. In March of this year he won his first NCAA tournament; In June everything stood between him and qualifying for his first US open was a sudden death play-off. (He lost.)

Luke is the main subject in educational science. He was this semester a Honor Roll -Student. He drives a Mercedes on the campus and home during the weekend. His father folded sweaters and gave lessons as a Clubpro at the same age. What a difference makes a generation. His father is a serious powerful car man. A bad place to be, in the past, crossed a way in the Bay Hill development after Poulter played a bad round in the Arnold tournament. Luke once rode his father’s Ferrari ff. Around the neighborhood. “That was enough,” said the son.

The senior poulter was a Cobra player in his heyday. Luke plays titleist. Cobra was semi-edgy. Titleist is your classic Golf Club. Read something in it – but not too much.

Last summer Luke had a stress fracture in his back that kept him out of Golf for seven months. The healing through peace. He has returned stronger in all respects.

Luke remembers his father, now 49, not as a Ryder Cup star, but he knows the legend and he has seen the highlights. Does he see what we see, Ian Poulter with his eyes that practically fall out of his head?

“One hundred percent,” said Luke. “That is how he played, he is that his passion shows, everything comes out.”

Literal!

The son has collected his mother’s eyes deeply. Luke Poulter is the son of Ian Poulter and also Katie Poulter’s.
