Jack Draper believes that he will not be stopped by any physical pain, because he faces the challenge of finding his form at the US Open after a seven -week hiatus injury.
Draper, the fifth seed in New York, has not participated in Singles since a difficult loss for Marin Cilic in the second round of Wimbledon after he heard that he suffered from bone button in his left arm.
“It was something I played through for a while,” said Draper, who plays the Federico Agustin Gómez qualifying in the first round on Monday. “I probably started to feel it for the first time against the middle of the clay season. I felt that my arm closed a little when I hit the serve and on the serve. It was still getting worse. Then it got pretty painful on the grass. So I didn’t know what I was dealing with.
“After the grass I got check -out. I had some bone stress, colliding, in my humerus on my left side. It is one of those, if you keep playing with it, it could be very, very seriously. So I had to take some time -it wasn’t so bad, because I could clearly do many other things.
Although he sometimes had pain during the grass season, Draper does not believe that the injury played a role in his Wimbledon loss, of which he said he was pure to his struggle to adjust to the surface.
“It is an injury that takes time to heal,” said Draper. “A bone can heal, but it might give me some discomfort, that’s for sure. It is not something that I will go out on Monday and have the feeling that it will stop me completely. But at the same time I have taken care of this for the past month or so.
