The Leylah Fernandez of Canada crushes the sacrifice of Marias and China Open

Leylah Fernandez from Canada has finally solved Maria Sakkari.

Fernandez won for the first time in four career matches against Sakkari in Greece, rolling to a 6-2, 6-0 triumph in the second round of the China Open on Friday.

The 25th placed Fernandez, who was given a bye in the first round of the WTA Tour 1000 Hard-Court event, played for the first time since he lost number 1 seed and final champion Aryna Sabalenka in the third round of the US Open at the end of August.

Sakkari, in 56th place in the world, was also driven into the third round of the last Grand Slam of the season. She reached a career-best no. 3 in the ranking in 2022.

Fernandez converted all five of her breaking points against Sakkari. She partyed on Sakkari’s second Serve and won more than 63 percent of those points.

Fernandez, from Laval, Que., Is then confronted with no. 2 Seed Coco Gauff, who beat the Russian Kamilla Rakhimova 6-4, 6-0 in the second round.

The American is a 2-0 lifespan against Fernandez and wins all four sets in the games that were played in Australia earlier this year.

Victoria Mboko from Canada, the number 21 seed, is planned to be against Anastasia Potapova in the second round on Saturday.

Mboko, who won the National Bank Open in Montreal in August, has not played since he lost in the first round of the US Open.
