The first thing I learned was how to pronounce it. KJUS. Rhymes with ‘juice’. Like famed Norwegian alpine racer Lasse Kjus, co-founder of the luxury skiwear brand, which has since branched out into golf apparel.
The second thing I learned was that I couldn’t afford it. Or rather, that I didn’t want to spend $500 on myself – not when I could buy ten bullets at my local council with that kind of money. Priorities. Dressing for the weather has never been at the top of my list.
Then a friend sent me a KJUS Pro 3L 2.0 raincoat as a holiday gift. My perspective changed.
Many golf apparel brands boast that their products combine fashion and functionality. This jacket delivers on that promise and more, with a hip, streamlined cut and an array of refined features. It’s what Batman’s Alfred might design if his boss had plans to fix it in bad conditions before going to a black-tie dinner. It looks great. Works fine too.
KJUS Pro 3L 2.0
Experience rain protection like never before with this fully elastic waterproof jacket. X-stretch panels with body zones further increase flexibility, while innovative rain gutters at the wrist ensure uninterrupted play in wet conditions. Ideal for cool to cold days.
The material is waterproof and windproof. No biggie there. Any self-respecting raincoat can rightly claim the same. What’s different is the fabric – so light it feels like a second skin – and the way it’s stitched together, with stretchy X-shaped panels that give you virtually frictionless freedom of movement. There’s a high collar at the back for extra protection, and little pleats in the sleeves that act as gutters and drain water from your hands. Each side pocket contains discreet drawstrings that solve a common problem with rainwear. Pull the cords and they pull the jacket tight against your torso, so there’s no billowy fabric to hinder your swing – an especially useful feature when you’re hitting or attempting a shot around the green.
I’ve worn it on real courses, in real rain. I had what the kids call “lived experiences” in the jacket, and I liked it. A lot of. Whether I would have bought it for myself is a hypothetical question that I would like to answer. What I know is that now that I own it, I am much less bothered if the sunny weather forecast is wrong.
