Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has praised Brighton loanee Ibrahim Osman.

Ibrahim Osman scored his first goal for Birmingham City in their 2-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday as Chris Davies’ side moved to 10th in the Championship.

Osman was loaned from Brighton to Birmingham City during the January transfer window and has now made three appearances for the Blues, who are now unbeaten in their last six in the competition, winning four of them.

Birmingham City also signed August Priske during the January transfer window, spending £6 million on him, as well as £7 million on Carlos Vicente, who started against Leicester City on Saturday.

Praise for Ibrahim Osman after Birmingham City 2-1 Leicester City

Speaking to the club after Saturday’s victory, Davies was not shy in his praise for 21-year-old Osman. He said: “He’s been a great outlet for us. Real speed, loves being 1-on-1. I want him to take risks. He’s never going to beat the man every time he gets the ball, sometimes it won’t work. But I like his positivity and I want him to keep that fearlessness.”

“But what I like most is that he combines that with hard work. He works hard for the team. He will run, he will press, he will do the dirty side of the game very well, and he has done that.”

Championship news

BCFC signed a total of seven new players in January. Osman, Priske and Vicente all joined, along with Jhon Solis, Jonathan Panzo, Kai Wagner and Patrick Roberts signing on a permanent contract from Sunderland.

Review of Birmingham City’s January transfer window

Birmingham City spent by far the most money in the Championship in January. Their expenditure easily exceeded the £10 million mark, probably totaling around £15 million, with the deal for Wagner reportedly costing around £2 million.

As fans know, money doesn’t always buy quality. But Birmingham City’s signings seem to have made the side much more balanced and much better, with Davies managing to offload a lot of deadwood, especially in attack, replacing the likes of Lyndon Dykes and so on with a quality player like Osman.

And BCFC is looking really good at the moment. Birmingham City are on a roll and are quickly moving into the top six, although their signings don’t necessarily have Championship experience apart from Roberts, so whether they have what it takes to get over the line this season remains to be seen.

But BCFC remain on a positive trajectory and take on a lowly West Brom side in the Championship on Tuesday evening.
