I have to thank the Arsenal fans for cheering me up.
Disgusted that Newcastle United didn’t even get a point against Aston Villa, I then watched the match from the Emirates.
I went home instead of going to the pub, not because I was confused, more due to the fact that there have been so many home games lately and I felt like staying out for a (new!) post-match epic might be going a bit too far.
Anyway, I got to watch that Gunners match at home, with the sound on, and not in the pub, so I could hear what passes for atmosphere in the Emirates.
As you undoubtedly know, Arsenal lost 3-2 to Man U on Sunday.
I thought the Arsenal fans were in quite a shock throughout the match, but it really paid off at the end.
The referee blows the final whistle.
Which then caused the Arsenal fans to boo Mikel Arteta and his players. That will teach them to dare to lose a match!
Please NEVER let Newcastle United fans end up as Arsenal fans.
Until yesterday, Arsenal fans had not seen their team lose at home in any match or competition this season.
Mikel Arteta and his players had played sixteen, won fourteen, drawn two and lost none. I know you can get used to winning and not being defeated. Take it for granted, but come on!
Boos for your manager and players after their first home defeat since early May 2025!!
It’s getting worse/better.
Arsenal fans have seen their team win all seven Champions League games and are guaranteed to finish top of the Swiss League stage.
Arsenal fans have seen their team top the Premier League for virtually the entire season and are still four points clear.
Arsenal fans have seen their team progress in the FA Cup and will be in the fourth round next month.
Arsenal fans have seen their team beat Chelsea in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final and are all but guaranteed to be at Wembley in March.
Before Sunday, Arsenal fans in all competitions, home and away, had seen their team pay 34 games, winning 27, drawing five and losing two.
They make it three losses (and 27 wins!!!) in 35 and get booed…you couldn’t make up for it.
I never thought I’d see the day where I (almost!!) felt sorry for Mikel Arteta BUT here we are.
Of course it is not a one-time action; the campaign by Arsenal fans to sideline Arsène Wenger was incredible, the disrespect and lack of gratitude on another level.
More recently, I watched three weeks ago when Arsenal were at home to title challengers Aston Villa. The Arsenal fans booed Mikel Arteta and their team at half-time for the heinous crime of a 0-0 draw at half-time.
Arsenal then defeated Villa 4-1. Arsenal fans will no doubt claim that they inspired their manager and team to that victory by booing them at half-time.
It would be the best thing ever if just as Mikel Arteta is about to start presenting the big trophies, the Arsenal fans undermine it all and everything collapses.
Here is the hope.
