Liverpool will start tonight with their Champions League campaign against Atletico Madrid, but one of our biggest summer signings may not be ready to start the game.
Alexander Isak, who has joined Newcastle United for a British record costs of £ 125 million, still works back to full fitness and journalist David Ornstein has provided an update.
Ornstein assesses the fitness of Isak prior to Atletico collision
Talk about the Back podcast pagesOrnstein explained: “Yes, I think there is a good chance that he will play a role. I would imagine that that would be from the bank, given his lack of football so far.
“And Liverpool is in the accidental situation of Hugo Ekitike, a top no. 9, already in the team, and clearly the circumstances around [Isak’s] Fitness is not ideal.
“They were not for Newcastle, nor now for Liverpool, and certainly not for him and Sweden, as you said.
“And it can take a few weeks before he is aware, and we see the Alexander Isak that we have seen before.”
This belief of a short cameo from the bank is something that was also shared by Sky Sports’ Vinny O’Connor.
The Swedish striker scored 27 goals for Newcastle last season, including the winner against us in the Carabao Cup final, but we all wait for his debut in Anfield and Liverpool.
Liverpool attack stimulated by depth in the role of no. 9

Although Isak can gradually be relaxed, the Reds are already benefiting from the presence of the French attacker Hugo Ekitike.
The 23-year-old started the season strongly and justified why Liverpool went through a £ 69 million deal.
The attacking depth is further strengthened by the arrival of the German international Florian Wirtz, which was signed from Bayer Leverkusen for £ 116 million and already influences competitions with his creativity from midfield.
With Atletico Madrid expected to defend deeply and against, although without Julian Alvarez, our boss knows that he has options to change the game of the bank if necessary in the form of our record sign drawing.
