“I am given small targets to concentrate on,” Yashasvi Jaiswal admits how great batting with Virat Kohli was

Indian youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal batted alongside Virat Kohli for the first time in an ODI match as he reached his maiden century in one-day cricket. Yashasvi is now one of the few Indian players with a century in all three formats. He has admitted how batting alongside Kohli helped him achieve his goal.

India have never celebrated a bilateral series win in this way, as they did during a hard-fought home series win against South Africa. South Africa gave India a neck-and-neck battle as they leveled the series in Raipur and chased a huge total.

Entering Visakhapatnam, India won their first toss after twenty ODI matches and also their first since the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-final. KL Rahul’s decision to bowl first had the advantage as Dew played an overwhelming role in India’s victory in the final game of the series.

“Striking with Virat paaji was great,” said Yashasvi Jaiswal after the third ODI

When Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings alongside Rohit Sharma in the ODI series after Shubman Gill’s injury, he could not convert his dim starts into anything promising in the first two ODIs in Ranchi and Raipur.

Instead, he came back strongly but destroyed any hopes that still existed for South Africa in the last match against Vizag. With 116*, Jaiswal not only scored his maiden ODI hundred but also took India to a promising 9-wicket victory.

Speaking about his time at the crease alongside Virat Kohli, he said it was great to bat alongside him, easing the pressure on the young batsman since his arrival. He also said that Kohli had regular conversations with the young cricketer.

Yashasvi Jaiswal said, “Batting with Virat paaji was great. From the moment Paaji came, he started playing a lot of shots and we also kept chatting where he gave me small targets to concentrate on which helps me a lot and helps me achieve my target.”

India has had only a handful of cricketers cross the century mark in all three formats of the game. Since the introduction of the T20I format, many greats of the game have played in the format from India.

However, only the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Suresh Raina and Shubman Gill were among the cricketers to score a century in all three formats of the game. Now Yashasvi Jaiswal has also been included in the elite list of Indian cricketers with the same record.

Yashasvi Jaiswal or Ruturaj Gaikwad-Who will be picked for the NZ series after Shubman Gill’s return?

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad were both picked for the South Africa series due to injuries to Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. However, both players took these opportunities and scored a century each in the series.

With some determination, both also earn a place in the Indian line-up for India’s next ODI series against New Zealand, but Shubman Gill has confirmed his return to the South African T20Is and is therefore likely to play the ODI series against New Zealand.

Now that Gill is back in the team as captain, he is irreplaceable when fit. Hence, it is highly likely that Ruturaj Gaikwad will get another chance in the upcoming series, but for Yashasvi, the wait continues.
