Hyundai Staria in Malaysia now gets a floor center console instead of the center front seat, no change in price – paultan.org

To refresh your memory, the seven-seater versions of the Malaysian market Hyundai Staria have a floor-mounted center console (with a sliding cover) between the front seats, while the ten-seater versions have a center seat whose backrest folds down to give you two cupholders, two phone slots and a storage compartment. It has been that way from the Sime Darby era, through the Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) era to the local assembly era (CKD).

HMY has announced that the MPV now has a floor console that houses a removable cup holder, a retractable cup holder, a storage box and a drawer tray (the same features as the existing console on the seven-seater), and that the center seat has been removed. No price change – it’s still RM179,888-267,888 – and of course the car has been CKD since October.

Previously, the seven-seater had a center console on the floor (left), while the 10-seater had a center seat

We’re still not sure if this new console is the same as on the seven-seater or if it’s a new one we haven’t seen before (a localization special?). If it’s the former, it simply means the ten-seater wins what the seven-seater has had all along, and if it’s the latter, we wonder if both cars get that.

But given that even the new facelift (not yet in Malaysia) carries over both the floor console and center seat, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that the former is now standard across the range. In any case, we have contacted HMY and will provide updates and photos in due course.
