The history of funny cars dates from the sixties, and although it is not possible to determine exactly who came up with the sentence and why, many experts in the Drag -Race field agree that the name comes from the “funny” aesthetics of these dragsters. Funny cars are certainly all about the figures, and although 11,000 hp and four-second cartoon times are certainly impressive, the shock factor does not end there. Although they have 1000 feet before they hit the finish line, most funny cars will approach speeds of approximately 340 km / h at the end, after they have cracked halfway through 300 mph. For context, this is the same as the top speed of the fastest production car on record – around an eighth of a mile.

Funny cars burn no less than 15 liters of fuel with each run, with motorcycle capacities covered at 500 bi. The supercharged and fuel-injected engines are actually the same as those used in top fuel carriers, although funny cars have carbon fiber body scales that resemble regular production models. Another difference between top fuel dragsters and funny cars is that the latter has a shorter wheelbase.

The fastest funny car so far is the Mustang-like model of Bob Tasca III, which in 2024 succeeded 341.68 km / h.
