Unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in October, the Honda Super-One will be on display simultaneously at both the Tokyo Auto Salon and the Singapore Motor Show this week. In fact, our southern neighbors are ahead of Japan (and the rest of the world) by being the first to launch the small EV.

With its debut on the island comes a few new bits of information. We now know that the car produces 95 hp (70 kW) and 162 Nm of torque – right in between the N-One e: Where car on which it is based (64 hp/162 Nm) and Honda’s previous small EV, the e (154 hp/315 Nm).

What isn’t known is the range, but given that the company is touting a DC fast charging time of 20 to 80% in the same 30 minutes as the N-One e:, we can assume the battery is the same 29.6 kWh unit as that car. Since the Super-One is a lot more powerful, we can expect its range to be slightly shorter than the WLTP-rated 295 km of the N-One e:.

As previously reported, the Super-One also introduces a new Boost mode that optimizes the power of the front motor and simulates seven-speed shifting, similar to the also new Prelude. This, along with the faux engine sounds of the Active Sound Control system, was popularized by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6 N and is quickly being adopted by the rest of the industry.

Despite being positioned as a sports EV, the Super-One’s mechanical makeup is quite simple, with MacPherson struts up front and torsion beam suspension at the rear, plus drum brakes at the rear. While the prototypes shown in Japan and Singapore are fitted with cool-looking 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels, the final examples heading south will come with 15-inch wheels wrapped in 165/65 R15 tires.

Furthermore, the production Super-One should look exactly like the prototypes, with the same small body, round headlights and rectangular taillights as the N-One e: but with aggressive fender flares to emphasize the car’s sporting intent. The changes have seen the dimensions increase significantly to 3,589mm long, 1,573mm wide and 1,616mm high – 194mm longer, 98mm wider and 71mm higher than its predecessor. Where brother that adheres to the regulations – while retaining the same wheelbase of 2,520 mm.

The simple interior is again taken from the N-One e:, albeit with raised front seat supports and partial leather upholstery. As standard, the Super-One gets a 9-inch Display Audio infotainment touchscreen and an eight-speaker Bose sound system – the first for a compact Honda. There are also six speakers and the usual array of Honda Sensing safety features, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centering assistance and a LaneWatch blind spot camera.

Last but not least is the price – and this being Singapore, it’s not cheap: it costs a whopping S$178,999 (RM566,700). This of course includes the company’s mandatory COE, at the current “value” rate of S$90,000 (RM284,600).

The Super-One could very well make its way to Malaysia – the car has already been spotted on our roads in camouflaged form, sporting Melaka trade number plates. The latter raises the possibility of the car being assembled locally at Honda Malaysia’s Pegoh plant, allowing it to benefit from ongoing CKD EV tax rebates.
