Gilles/Poirier, who have won silver at the last two World Championships, were one of the few teams left participating in the Skate Canada weekend this season. But their late-to-start strategy showed no cracks as they delighted the crowd in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, earning high marks in both their technical (48.71) and artistic components (36.67).
“We understand that we start the Grand Prix season with less preparation than other teams… [but] we have remained focused on the task at hand and our own vision for the programs,” Poirier said.
“I think we felt very comfortable getting started today. As proud as we are of the program today, we see where it can grow and how it can continue to develop.”
Skate Canada is the third of six stops further the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series. Skaters are looking for spots near the Grand Prix Final next month in Nagoya, Japan, which will serve as a mini-preview of February’s Milano Cortina Winter Games 2026.
Mistakes haunted Zoe and Zacharary.the Canadian teammates of Gilles/Poirier, for fourth place (75.95), while the Czech Katerina Mrazkov and Daniel Mrazek came fifth (74.29).
