‘Hiding in dugout’: Gautam Gambhir’s ex-teammate exposes Suryakumar Yadav amid form crisis

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav once again led India to victory under his leadership, but once again failed to put up a promising show with the bat. One of Gautam Gambhir’s former teammates fired shots at Suryakumar Yadav for hiding in the dugout.

India recovered in Dharamsala to take a lead in the five-match T20I series. After losing in New Chandigarh last time, the Indian contingent seemed determined to turn the tables amid the mountains. The bowlers did a remarkable job, and the rest was for the batters to chase.

The chase was a piece of cake for the Indian team, but this was probably the best chance for the Indian captain and vice-captain to revive their form by taking time to play an important innings and get some runs on the scoreboard.

“Questions are about his form” – Mohammad Kaif doubts Suryakumar Yadav’s intentions in Dharamsala

Speaking on his YouTube channel, former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif seemed unhappy with Suryakumar Yadav not batting at number one. 3 on this occasion as it was the ideal opportunity for the skipper to get his form back on track.

Kaif thought India were chasing a very small target and had a stunning start as Abhishek Sharma turned up the heat in the powerplay; all it took was Suryakumar Yadav coming in and playing his natural game and scoring an unbeaten 30-40 runs to take his team home with a lead.

“It would have been good for the upcoming matches. He is a solid player and no one doubts his skills with the bat,” Kaif said.

“Questions are about his form. He has been a good player; therefore, questions are about his form. He had a good chance to bat and not stay out, which could have been good for the remaining T20Is before the World Cup. One innings can turn a player into another player. When Tilak Varma was sent to No. 3, cameras were on Suryakumar Yadav,” he added.

“You can’t hide in the dugout if you want to make a comeback” – Mohammad Kaif

Mohammad Kaif also claimed that when a batsman is low on confidence, he is bound to have doubts; However, that doesn’t mean you’ll be hiding in the dugouts.

“But you have to be brave. You can’t hide in the dugout if you want to make a comeback. You have to take up that challenge to get out of that phase,” Mohammad Kaif opined about Suryakumar Yadav.

He also noted that when Suryakumar Yadav finally came to bat, there were hardly any runs to chase; even if he had not been dismissed he would not have made more than twenty runs, but if he had come out earlier he could have been given the opportunity to play deeper into the innings.

“Shubman Gill’s intention in those 10-15 balls was excellent” – Mohammad Kaif

Shubman Gill waited and took some time to make his innings on this occasion. Although Gill looked solid initially, he later got out in an attempt to hit the ball too hard after the runs stopped coming easily.

“Shubman Gill’s intention on those 10-15 balls was excellent. The footwork was also excellent in the first boundary he took. His plan was to hit a four in every ball, but he wasn’t looking for it. It was the right plan. His body language was one of wanting to place the ball well,” Mohammad Kaif noted.

He also noted that when Gill was dismissed he had thrown his hands at the ball, exposing the inner half of his bat. Kaif suggests that this happened due to the lack of form and big innings for the Indian batsman. He said Gill himself would certainly have understood that he had missed a very good opportunity to come back.

“Cricket is a form game. If you get lazy or late with your footwork, the wicket will fall. A batsman cannot afford to misplay even one shot, and Gill played one misplay to get out,” he concluded.
