Heavy rain continued to lash the Rayalaseema region for the second consecutive day on Wednesday (October 22, 2025) as a low-pressure area deepened over the southwestern Bay of Bengal, bringing incessant rain showers to the interior.
A heavy to very heavy rain warning has been issued in Sri Sathya Sai, Chittoor, Annamayya, YSR Kadapa, Anantapur and Nandyal districts until Friday.
The Rayalaseema region reported waterlogged areas, overflowing tanks and streams, and stranded agricultural lands in several mandals.
In Sri Sathya Sai district, continuous rain was reported from Puttaparthi, Penukonda, Hindupur and Dharmavaram divisions. Rural roads became muddy and from Tuesday evening small irrigation tanks began to overflow with rainwater. Farmers in Chilamathur mandal of Anantapur district and Gorantla mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district said the downpour started late on Tuesday and continued throughout the night, inundating vast groundnut fields.
Control room opened in Annamayya district
In Annamayya district, heavy spells paralyzed normal life in Rayachoti, Rajampet and Lakkireddypalle areas. The Cheyyeru and Bahuda rivers were reported to be in mild swell, with runoff flowing over the causeways in the rural areas. Field revenue, panchayat raj and R&B officials reported minor damage to horticultural crops while bringing farmers respite from the long dry weeks since March. District Collector Nishant Kumar said a control room had been set up at Rayachoti with the number 08561-293006.
The adjoining YSR Kadapa district witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall, recording between 50mm and 80mm of rain since Tuesday morning. Scattered rain was reported in Anantapur, but there was heavy rain in Kalyandurg, Dharmavaram and Kadiri. On the rural side, uprooted trees and temporary power outages were reported.
A steady shower continued in Nandyal district with knee-deep water in several panchayats in Allagadda and Koilakuntla regions.
In Chittoor, the district administration is alert to the steady inflow into the Neeva river around Chittoor Municipal Corporation and adjoining GD Nellore constituency. The irrigation and revenue officials were directed to monitor the flow of water into the Krishnapuram reservoir near Karveti Nagaram.
Downpour was reported in Nagari, Karveti Nagaram, Chittoor, GD Nellore, SR Puram and Nindra mandals. Officials said that other than heavy rainfall, there was no damage to public or private property in the region. “Police personnel are being deployed to prevent visitors from moving towards Kaigal Waterfalls near Palamaner. Special surveillance is being maintained on flooded roads in the rural areas, especially in Gudipala, Karveti Nagaram and Vedurukuppam areas,” said SP Tushar Dudi, appealing to the public not to come closer to water bodies.
The agriculture and revenue officials conducted a series of inspections in the affected villages in Chittoor, Sathya Sai and Annamayya districts. Disaster management personnel were kept on alert till Friday due to the heavy rain warning. The teams had to focus on flooding, weak and overflowing culverts and tanks that were vulnerable to breaches.
