The Eagles had agreed to sell their captain to Liverpool for a fee of £35 million, but their failure to sign a replacement in time meant the deal fell through.
Liverpool are expected to return with Guehi as a free agent in the summer, while a January move cannot be ruled out given the champions’ recent problems. There is also rival interest from Europe, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich linked.
However, Palace may have found the right profile to replace the club’s captain in Jaydee Canvot.
The 19-year-old signed for Palace from Toulouse on September 1 and marked his full Premier League debut with an excellent performance this weekend.

Canvot scored eight clearances, blocked two shots and completed 91.3% of his passes during the goalless draw against rivals Brighton.
His seamless move to the wing in place of the injured Guehi is an encouraging sign for Oliver Glasner, although the Palace boss will not want to put undue pressure on the young defender.
However, the south Londoners can be pleased with his full-competition debut and another example of their impressive recent recruitment.
