Harry Redknapp has talked about Newcastle United.
The former Spurs and West Ham manager now discusses Eddie Howe and his team four months into the new season.
This weekend Newcastle United plays against Chelsea.
Kick-off at 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United are looking to make it two wins in a row after edging past Fulham in midweek in another Carabao Cup semi-final for NUFC under Eddie Howe.
Saturday is also a chance to get back on track in the Premier League after last Sunday’s defeat. Although Chelsea are currently fourth, a very tight league table means that twelfth-placed Newcastle United will be just three points behind Chelsea with a home win.
Speaking to BetVictor ahead of the match, Harry Redknapp called this match an opportunity “bounce back” from the defeat at Sunderland, building on that cup win in midweek. Says Harry Redknapp “If there’s one match you can’t lose” it’s the derby.
In their last nine home games in all competitions, Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United team have won eight and drawn one, with no defeats at St James’ Park since September.
Harry Redknapp predicts a 2-1 win for United and explains; “I’m leaning towards Newcastle United here, I expect a big response [to the derby defeat].”
Chelsea were not in great form and before beating Everton 2-0 at home last Saturday, they had not won any of their last four games. Losses to Leeds and Atalanta, plus draws at home to Arsenal and away to out-of-form Bournemouth.
Chelsea struggled past League One Cardiff in midweek and were lucky there were no penalties.
Harry Redknapp has picked Nick Woltemade as the player to watch out for in this match on Saturday and stated; “That boy scored that crazy own goal last week, he will have to come back here.”
It was a huge boost in midweek, especially for Nick Woltemade, as he saw Yoane Wissa make his first start for Newcastle United. It has been difficult for Big Nick to start virtually every game since his arrival and now that Wissa can share the workload it will be great for both the players and the team in general.
In midweek, Wissa needed just ten minutes to score his first goal for NUFC, and Nick Woltemade looked sharp as he came on for the final twenty minutes with Sandro Tonali against Fulham.
A huge boost for Eddie Howe to have his forwards available and I think we’ll see them both take the field this weekend, whether it’ll be one in front of the other or whether we’ll see them play part of the match together remains to be seen.
Anyway, I agree with Harry Redknapp, I also think Newcastle can get the win over Chelsea.
