Anjum expressed surprise that the Giants decided to release Harleen at all. She slammed Harleen with the likes of top all-rounder Deepti Sharma while keeping the leadership aspect in mind while naming the players’ franchises.
“I’m surprised that Gujarat Giants have released Harleen Deol. She is a multi-talented Indian player who can also bowl a bit, and I hope she develops her bowling skills further. She will attract a lot of interest at the auction. Along with Deepti Sharma, she will be an Indian player that every franchise will focus on as teams want strong Indian batters and potential leadership options,” said Anjum during JioStar’s ‘Most Wanted: TATA WPL 2026 Auction’ program.
Harleen spent three seasons at Gujarat Giants. She registered 482 runs in 20 matches while possessing a strike rate of 115.58 and an average of 30.12. Harleen played just three matches in the 2024 edition after injuring her knee in the Giants’ third league match.
She was recently part of India’s title-winning Women’s World Cup squad in 2025. The middle-order batsman was a vital part of the Women in Blue as they won their maiden 50-over title under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur.
Speaking of the player list for the auction, there are still 73 available slots to be filled with 277 players on the roster. The squad includes 194 Indians, which amounts to 52 uncapped and 142 uncapped players. A total of 50 slots will be reserved for them. The remaining 23 are for 66 foreign-limited players and 17 foreign-limited players.
The mega auction starts with the marquee set featuring eight players: Deepti Sharma Renuka Singh Thakur and Sophie Devine. Sophie Ecclestone, Alyssa Healy, Amelia Kerr. Meg Lanning and Laura Wolvaardt.
