Guildford Flames claimed their 17th victory in 19 Home meetings against Glasgow Clan in competition game with a convincing 5-1 victory on Saturday evening. It was their first competition gain of the season in what the second league match of both teams was of the campaign.
“The last five periods we had played”, Cole Ully began, now with the flames after having spent last season in Glasgow. “Apart from our first in Nottingham we were pretty good, so we wanted to take that with us today. Especially a shortage of Vooruit, we really showed up and played for each other.”
Clan was the first to hit the opening spotplay of the game, Richard Jarůšek tipped Jason Fram’s point past Justin Fazio, while Ben Solder was stumbling at 6:50. However, the flames were less than four minutes later, when Josh Waller called in the jets and Jack Jacome his shot past Sami Aittokallio roofed. Hugo Roy just passed by when he was endured at Fazio when the game opened, but the first period ended the entire square.
“Every time you go on the road, you have to come out strong and play the bat well,” said Clan’s Jason Fram. “It was important for us to start well and we did that, but we dropped that later in the game. Guildford ended their chances. We had many opportunities to score and did not put it in the net tonight.”

The second period was from the hosts. In a scramble around the fold of Aittokallio, a combination of Lewis Hook and Tyler Busch forced the puck over the line after 31 minutes. In the last minute of the period, the flames were given a penalty shot when improvised attacker Jamal Watson was brought to an escape. Ully stepped up and calm down to leave it 3–1 during the break.
“Every team gets injuries, but we let boys come up,” continued Ulfly, pointing to Watson who filled in as an attacker. “We all played for each other and kept pushing. I think it’s really a good sign for us.”
While Clan chased the match in the third, Mathieu Gosselin rode hard on the net and the puck squeezed Aittokallio to play 4-1 with just under 12 minutes.
With 4:24 left and Waller in the box for cutting, Corey Neilson pulled his goalkeeper for the extra skater. The flames, shorted, could shoot freely on the empty net and finally sealed the game thanks to Josh Nixon, who scored in the unguarded cage.
“It’s always strange the first time you play your old team, but it’s a little extra motivation,” Ully concluded. “I loved my time in Glasgow, and it was great to see my friends.”
Clan is now going to Sheffield to complete a weekend doubling cancer on the road. “It is now a bit different and on the way to the next city,” Fram added. “You just try to keep everything the same and prepare your best.”
