The Guardians wear TOP Outfield Prospect Chase Delauter on their Wildcard series schedule against the Tigers, the announced team. Cleveland already had an opening on the 40-man roster, so it didn’t have to take another step to select the contract of the former First-Rounder.
When he comes into a game, this will be the first MLB campaign of the 23-year-old. It is rare, but not entirely unheard of for top perspectives to get a postseason selection before they make their regular season major league debut. De Tweeling went that route with Alex Kirilloff in 2020, while the Royals Adalberto Mondei had in the first place during the World Series 2015. Delauter is not in the starting line -up for Tuesday afternoon 1. Cleveland goes with Steven Kwan, Angel Martinez and Johnathan Rodriguez.
Delauter, the first round of the Guardians, chose James Madison University in 2022, opened the season on the shelf after having undergone a sports hernia operation and was sidelined two months later after a Hamate fracture when he was hit by a throw. That few health problems limited him to only 42 competitions and 177 record performances, but the advertised young outfielder then made his reputation on the field, with .278/.383/.476 cut into Triple-A. Delauter is a career .302/.384/.504 Slagman in the minors since he was generally selected in 2022.
Although Delauter will not receive any main class service time for days on the Postseason selection, his Ascension Day to the 40-man roster and the fact that the organization entrusts him with a place in the play-off selection is a clear sign that he is in the mix for an opening schedule of an opening day next year
Kwan is locked up as the left field player of Cleveland, but other two outfield places are much less certain. Delauter has more than 300 professional innings in the middle and more than 600 innings in the right field. He will be an option in both places, depending on other movements that the Front Office makes in the winter. The Guardians can check Delauter by at least the 2031 season and assuming that he will break the camp with the club in ’26, he can get the Guardians a future concept choice, depending on the prize voting during his pre-arbitration seasons.
However, that is a matter for another day. For the time being, the focus for Delauter and the organization will go as deep as possible in the play -offs. Cleveland has just completed one of the most amazing comebacks in the late season in modern baseball history and a shortage of 9.5 games knew during the last two and a half weeks of the season, using the Tigers as division champions in the American League Central.
