Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) makes a gruesome discovery on Boxing Day in Coronation Street. As she makes her way through the ginnel, she finds someone lying on the ground and left for dead.
But who is it and who attacked them?
To find out, we need look no further than the Rovers Return, and the Driscoll family and their various guests around Christmas dinner. It’s actually a seething mass of tension, one of those Corrie Christmas dinners where you know everything is about to explode.
Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) isn’t in the best of moods after something her daughter says about wanting a brother or sister brings back memories of a secret she’s been keeping from Ben (Aaron McCusker).
She confides in Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) what’s bothering her, and her mother-in-law Maggie (Pauline McLynn) sees them together and becomes convinced that something is going on between the two – especially after she sees Adam handing a package to Eva.
The package is actually a Christmas present for Alya (Sair Khan), as Maggie discovers when she searches for it in Eva’s bag. But she also makes another discovery in the bag: a letter that Eva wrote at Adam’s suggestion to try to solve her secret problem.
Maggie is furious that Eva has kept this secret from Ben, so she tries to reveal it in the most dramatic way possible – just as everyone is opening their presents.
As if that wasn’t enough drama, Maggie has also invited Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) and his son Bertie to stay for lunch.
Daniel recently dates Megan (Beth Nixon), the woman who, as far as the Driscolls are concerned, is Will’s (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) sports coach. But viewers know that Megan is grooming the much younger Will and that they have had an illicit relationship. Will considers himself Megan’s friend, so he is furious when he looks at Daniel and Megan together.
When Maggie hands out the Secret Santa gifts, Ben is completely stunned by what he sees when he opens his, while Maggie revels in the fact that her daughter-in-law’s true nature (as she sees it) will finally be revealed.

The whole occasion descends into chaos as accusations are made, there are some shocking revelations and fists fly as violence erupts.
One member of the Driscoll family is thrown out of their own pub, while another meets a grim fate and is eventually found in the ginnel by Evelyn the next day.
We’ll have to wait to find out the identities of both the victim and the attacker, but it’s safe to say it’s a Christmas with long-lasting consequences for many people. Will everyone make it through the new year alive?
