Leading Grant Thornton Invitational Contenders

Denny McCarthy and Nelly Korda

Denny McCarthy and Nelly Korda top many betting lists as one of the PGA Tour’s most consistent putter pairs with arguably the best player on the LPGA.

Their strength on Bermudagrass greens and ability to generate birdie opportunities from all parts of the course make them a formidable duo in low-scoring formats such as scramble and modified fourball.

Korda’s elite world ranking and big winning pedigree match perfectly with McCarthy’s short game sense, making them a duo well suited to handling tight pins and pressure putts on Tiburon’s contoured surfaces.

If they find rhythm early in the opening battle, they will likely stay at the top of the standings all weekend.

Corey Conners and Brooke Henderson

Corey Conners and Brooke Henderson appear to be a strong choice, with the Canadian duo known for their excellent tee-to-green.

Conners’ ability to hit the ball and find the fairway pairs well with Henderson’s aggressive approach game, which regularly provides birdie looks on Tiburon’s par 5s and mid-length par 4s.

When hitting alternately, their accuracy off the tee becomes a key asset, keeping the ball in position and reducing stress when approaching protected greens.

If the winning score changes to a touch-and-go contest rather than a putting shootout, this all-Canadian partnership should be central to the outcome.

Jason Day & My Lydia

Former champions Jason Day and Lydia Ko know exactly how to meet the unique demands of this mixed format, having lifted the trophy together in the inaugural edition in 2023.

Day’s creativity on the greens and Ko’s precision iron play make them one of the most balanced teams in the field.

On bermudagrass greens that require touch and confidence, their combined short-game strengths stand out, especially on alternating shots where saving pars can be as important as chasing birdies.

With proven chemistry and course knowledge, Day and Ko are legitimate threats to regain the title in Naples.

Michael Brennan and Charley Hull

Michael Brennan comes on as a late replacement for Daniel Berger, giving Charley Hull a new but exciting partner for Tiburon this week.

Brennan is coming into form after earning promotion with multiple victories on the PGA Tour Americas and a breakthrough PGA Tour win at the Bank of Utah Championship in just his third start.

Hull brings proven class and a strong recent record on the LPGA and sits atop the Rolex rankings after a run that includes wins and several second-place finishes.

Her aggressive style and high birdie percentage should pair well with Brennan’s confidence and length, giving this new-look team a real edge in the low-scoring scramble and modified fourball rounds despite limited time to build chemistry.

Wyndham Clark and Lexi Thompson

Wyndham Clark and Lexi Thompson are one of the most powerful combinations in the field, combining two big hitters with major championship status.

Clark arrives at the Hero World Challenge with a solid T8, his best finish in months and a good sign that his tee-to-green game is returning to form after a quieter stretch following his standout 2023 season.

Thompson has 11 LPGA titles and previous success in this team event format, making her particularly comfortable in mixed-gender competition and on bermudagrass in Florida.

If both players drive it well, their ability to attack par 5s and medium par 4s should provide plenty of birdie looks, giving them strong dark-horse appeal at mid-range odds on the outright market.
