Jan Fuller won gold and bronze for England at the Parkinson’s World Table Tennis Championships.

The championships, held in Helsingborg, Sweden, included men’s and women’s showcase events that ran in parallel with the European Para Championships.

The rest of the classes were then held under the World Parkinson umbrella, with several competitors from England taking part.

Fuller (pictured above) won the women’s gold without dropping a match, winning her three group matches 3-0 and then the final against Denmark’s Elisabeth Ildal, also 3-0 (12-10, 11-9, 11-8).

In class two of the women’s singles, both Lynn Tearse and Julie Norris of England reached the quarter-finals.

In the Men’s Singles Class 1, Michel Barlow-Pye of England reached the last 32, losing 3-0 (11-6, 11-4, 11-5) to Jean Spagnol of France. Robin Wallis reached the consolation quarterfinals.

In Class 2, Mark Lawrence reached the consolation round of 16 and Stephen Loble the consolation round of 32.

In doubles, the best results came in the Mixed categories. In Class 1, Barlow-Pye teamed up with Scotland’s Lynn Arnot to reach the quarter-finals, where they were defeated 3-0 (11-5, 11-5, 11-5) by Roland Wimmer and Agnes Jan of Austria.

In Class 2, Loble & Norris reached the quarter-finals, where they were defeated in threes by eventual champions Frank Hahn & Birgitte Joergensen from Germany and Denmark respectively. Tearse, who played alongside Scotland’s Kenneth Booth, went out in the group stage.

In the Women’s Doubles Class 2, Norris & Tearse won one of the three group matches – one of their defeats was against Scotland’s Joy Paul & Lynn Arnot, who went on to win bronze.

In the Class 1 men’s doubles, Barlow-Pye teamed up with Scotland’s Steven Morley and went out in the group stage, although one of their three defeats came in the fifth. Wallis & Yasuhiko Fuke from Japan won one of the three matches, which was not enough to advance to the knockouts.

In Grade 2, Lawrence played with Herve Morel from France and Loble was with Scotland’s Booth. Both pairs left the group stage with one win in three.
