GM #29: Dallas Stars @ Winnipeg Jets

GM #29: Dallas Stars @ Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets’ season hasn’t gone as planned as the NHL club has the seventh-worst record in the league. A difference from last year, when they were in the top 5 for most of the season. Things don’t get any easier for the True Northers, with division rival Dallas Stars next on the list and having played excellent hockey in 2025-2026.

While our Jets (14-13-1) will try to avoid another losing streak when the game kicks off at 7 p.m., center stage at the Canada Life Centre, the Stars (20-5-5) hope to extend their hot streak to 4 games. Dallas hasn’t lost a game in its last 10 games while sporting an 8-0-2 record and Winnipeg has limped to a 3-6-2 stat line over the same span.

The Texan hockey club is one of the highest scoring teams in the NHL (105 goals) so far this year, giving them 5 players who already have at least 25 points: Mikko Rantanen (39 pts), Jason Robertson (38), Wyatt Johnston (34), Miro Heiskanen (26), & Call Hintz (25).

The Manitobans rank 25th in goal scoring so far (85 goals), although they still managed to have 4 players in the same points range: Mark Scheifele (36 pts), Kyle Connor (35), Gabriel Vilardi (25), & Josh Morrissey (24).

Let’s take a look at Winnipeg and Dallas’ seasons by looking ESPN‘S comparison numbers of team and goalkeeper:

*****

The Stars are better in almost every category, scoring more goals and allowing fewer goals than the Jets. Both clubs have solid special teams units, yet Dallas still outperforms Winnipeg, especially with a lethal 31.6% power play.

So based on the numbers, there isn’t much reason for optimism for Jets fans. However unlikely, the coach may change Scott Arniel Making the line-up will lead to a surprising result. Laying another egg tonight could be the final blow to an already fragile team… yet I find it hard to imagine Winnipeg turning in a dominant performance that might rekindle my faith in this group of players.

Enough of my pessimism, let’s move on and take a look PuckPedia‘S Predicted lineups for tonight’s match, which are based on the club’s last matches:

Unfortunately, I’m having computer network problems at my real job this morning, so I’ll have to spend my time sorting that out instead of going on about tonight’s game against the Stars.
