And it is difficult to argue when you consider the caliber of horses that he possesses and/or bred, that are eligible for the race, but sidays for various reasons.

Think of the undefeated NSW Derby winner always hot, brilliant four-year-old mare very nice (nine wins and a second of 10 starts) and the Victoria Derby winner of last season, Dear Deal.

Despite the wear, Gleeson is still optimistic about the part of the richest race in the world with the emerging three -year -old, Go Miki (Always B Miki), who has raced only nine times for five wins and three seconds.

“He is a horse that we have always had a good opinion about and after his last run I went to see him in the stables of Emma and Clayton and they both agreed that he was a much underestimated horse,” said Gleeson.

‘Remember that he was only beaten a neck when he was the second place to always be hot in the Vicbred 2yo final and he is now a much better horse.

“He showed how dangerous he can be with a sitting when he quickly picked them up and easily won the last start at Menangle.

“I have no doubt that he would handle a strong 2300m and, with a nice draw and the right run, he is good enough to be right in the finish or even to win.”

Gleeson hopes that the team involved in the Summit Bloodstock and Aaron Bain Racing Slot in the Eureka tab looks good at Go Miki and he can get the chance to go two better than Gleeson’s runner in the race last year, high above, that third ran.

“He is the only tab Eureka hardcarder I had and at some point I thought this year may have three or four, but it all came to go Miki,” he said.

Gleeson said that always hot and very nice would only be back at the end of this year, perhaps at the beginning of 2026.

“It is very nice on the goal to be back first, but it might not be until the end of October or November,” he said. “Always hot had a small setback when he got a front leg over a fence and what stitches had. It is not serious, but it almost certainly means that he will no longer race this year.

“The best deal is also on the recovery path after a screw has been put in a rear sesamoid bone.”
